The New Balance 550 is unapologetically a 1980s basketball sneaker. As such, the low-top silhouette has displayed a penchant for simple, college-appropriate colorways. For its latest proposition, the model has employed an unassuming white and black base accompanied by a University of North Carolina-friendly blue.
Akin to relaunch styles by Teddy Santis’ Aimé Leon Dore, the newly-surfaced pair features a classic mix of high-quality leather and breathable mesh. The majority of the upper and sole unit indulges in a “colorless” or pitch-black makeup, while underlays around the heel, branding on the tongue and spine and parts of the tread opt for a starkly-contrasting light blue. Profile “N” logos don’t opt for an animated look, instead favoring a predominantly white arrangement, while the New Balance design’s three-digit number on the lateral quarter panel does. Together, each aforementioned component brings 1989 to the 21st century.

Elsewhere from the Boston-based brand, the New Balance XC-72 is set to see a widespread release soon.
